Applications to the School of Medical Sciences are processed through the central University of Cape Coast admissions system. This page tells you what you need and where to go.
First, check you qualify
You need credit passes in six subjects: English Language, Core Mathematics and Integrated Science, plus three electives. For MB ChB the electives are Biology, Chemistry, and either Physics or Elective Mathematics.
Every subject counted in your aggregate must be C6 or better under WASSCE, or D or better under SSSCE.
Medicine is heavily oversubscribed here. The published minimum gets you considered; it does not get you admitted. Check the current cut off points before you spend anything.
The five steps
1 — Check the entry requirements for your programme
Confirm your grades against the published requirements first. This is the step most applicants skip and most regret.
2 — Buy an application voucher
Vouchers are sold at authorised banks and Ghana Post offices nationwide: ADB, ARB Apex, Absa, Access, Cal Bank, Consolidated Bank Ghana, Ecobank, Fidelity, First Atlantic, GCB, Guaranty Trust, NIB, OmniBSIC, Prudential, Republic, Stanbic, Standard Chartered and Zenith. Also at Ghana Post, Ghana Dot Com, the UCC Admissions Office, the UCC Accra Office at Tesano, the Distance Learning Office and the School of Graduate Studies.
International applicants do not need a voucher. Go to international.ucc.edu.gh instead.
3 — Complete the application online
Go to apply.ucc.edu.gh and log in using your voucher serial number. Enter your details, select up to three programme choices ranked in order of preference, and upload the documents requested.
4 — Submit before the deadline
Deadlines are set each year and differ by mode of study. Undergraduate applications typically close in July. The current dates are published at apply.ucc.edu.gh — check them directly rather than relying on last year’s calendar.
5 — Track your application
Check your status at admissionlist.ucc.edu.gh. Successful applicants are invited for a medical examination before registration.
Fees and financial support
Fees are set by the University and reviewed annually. For the current MB ChB schedule, contact admissions@ucc.edu.gh.
Students of this School are eligible for both the Students Loan Trust Fund and District Assembly bursaries. Apply to each separately, and apply early — both run their own deadlines, which do not follow the University’s admissions calendar.

Do I need a voucher?
Yes, if you are a Ghanaian applicant. International applicants are exempt and should use international.ucc.edu.gh.
How many choices can I make?
Up to three, ranked in order of preference.
Can I apply with a first degree?
Graduates may be considered for entry with advanced standing. You must have graduated in a science related discipline with at least Second Class Lower Division, and you must have offered the Science programme at senior high school. Both conditions apply. Contact the School to check your eligibility before buying a voucher.
What happens after I submit?
Your application is assessed against the programme cut off points. Successful applicants are notified and invited for a medical examination before registration.
