Personal Statement
My clinical practice has focused on my area of interest in sexually transmitted infections (STIs). I have been the team leader for the HIV/STIs unit of the Cape Coast Teaching Hospital (CCTH) since 2006. I started the ART clinic and continues currently as the lead clinician. I also started the Hepatitis B and other STIs clinic since 2009. In addition to my work in the Region and the hospital, I am a national trainer for the National AIDS/STI Control Program (NACP) in Ghana. I am currently a member of the National Paediatric HIV acceleration task team established to come out with specific activities to help the NACP to achieve the 90 90 90 targets particularly for the paediatric population. I have and continue to support various projects carried out under the supervision of the NACP.
These have all contributed positively to my work as an academic staff of the University of Cape Coast in the School of Medical Sciences. During my terms of office as the Head of the Microbiology Department (6 years), I continued to support all research projects carried out in the Department and by individual members of the Department, the School and University. I work with other researchers on projects in Ghana and outside Ghana particularly Burkina Faso with the Pietro Annigoni Biomolecular Research Center (CERBA) and Laboratory of Molecular Biology and Genetics (LABIOGEN) research centers in Ouagadougou where I continue collaborate on research projects. During my PhD I was also had further research training in the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, UK.
