The Department of Anatomy and Cell Biology

The Department of Anatomy and Cell Biology has since its inception been dedicated to the teaching of all aspects of human anatomy in a practical and engaging manner that helps lay a solid foundation for the future practice of medicine. The teaching of human anatomy is integrated with other disciplines that help the students appreciate how structure and function interplay in the performance of everyday activities. The department boasts of highly dedicated faculty who encourage and instruct students to bring out their very best.Currently, teaching and learning activities mainly focus on the undergraduate level but the Department has plans to begin MPhil and PhD programmes in the near future. The department is currently exploring collaboration with sister departments in other medical schools. We operate a fully functional state-of-the-art commercial morgue which serves the Cape Coast community and its environs. The current research focus of the department is exploring two main areas, namely, how anthropometric measures influence simple reaction times and the pattern of bone ossification and factors that affect it. Faculty have authored or co-authored 3 (three) publications in notable international journals in the just past academic year.
